The First International Student Opinion Exchange Meeting at Inohana and Matsudo Campus.
The International Student Opinion Exchange Meetings were held on July 28 at the Inohana Campus, and on July 29 at the Matsudo campus. These meetings were part of an initiative that began last year, with a meeting held at the Nishi-Chiba campus to encourage the enrollment of outstanding international students and enhance our student support.
At the Inohana Campus, students from medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, and nursing gather. 14 international students from 5 countries and three Japanese students volunteered as facilitators participated from the campus. At the Matsudo Campus, which is home to undergraduate and graduate students of horticulture, 13 international students from 9 countries participated.
The lively discussions covered various topics, including their reasons for choosing Chiba University, research activities, daily life, and future career plans.
Each international student has different motivations and challenges in university life, and some students mentioned that they would like more chances to engage with Japanese students as well as fellow international students.
Their common challenges included difficulties making Japanese friends and finding part-time jobs due to language barriers.
On the positive side, participants highlighted that even with limited Japanese language skills, they could establish a stable living environment and conduct research with faculty and staff support. They are satisfied with the well-equipped research facilities, the university's proximity to Tokyo, and the overall living environment.
Chiba University provides comprehensive support for international students from before their arrival to through their university life at the Center for International Education and International Support Desk (ISD).
We remain committed to hearing to the voices of international students through meetings like this and enhance our support further.
