International Students Participate in Disaster Drill

On October 21, 2025, a disaster preparedness drill was conducted for students and faculty, simulating the occurrence of an earthquake.

At 11:50 AM, following the start announcement, participants took protective actions for one minute, such as hiding under desks, and then evacuated to the designated primary evacuation area (Katarai no Mori).

International students attending Japanese classes and other courses at the Center for International Education also participated. For many of these students, who come from countries without earthquakes, this was their first experience. Under the guidance of the faculty and staff, all participants successfully evacuated without incident.

Afterward, as an experiential training session, participants engaged in a fire extinguishing drill using fire extinguishers with the cooperation of the Inage Fire Station in Chiba City. Participants practiced the steps of initial fire suppression, including calling out "Fire!" to alert others, pulling the safety pin of the fire extinguisher, and then discharging the extinguisher.

International students shared comments such as, "I learned that it's important to respond calmly even in such a situation," and "I really hope everyone participates." This day served as a valuable opportunity to cultivate the necessary mindset for life in Japan and to raise disaster awareness.
