Japanese Language Workshops (JLW) for International Students and Researchers

Japanese Language Workshops will be offered as per the schedule below. Each workshop will comprise 5 sessions (classes). The participants are expected to attend all five workshop sessions. Note that the workshop generates no credits.

■Workshop 2: My first e-mail in Japanese
The emphasis is put on using appropriate forms and expressions when writing e-mail letters to your teachers to make an appointment, apologize or send an attachment. At the same time participants will develop the ability to correctly understand e-mail messages received from their teachers.

Intermediate students and Researchers whose Japanese language level corresponds to Japanese 4xx-6xx level at CIRE can attend this workshop.

Dates and time: 7 December (Mon), 14 December (Mon), 21 December (Mon), 18 January (Mon), 25 January (Mon) at 12:50-14:20

Venue: Kōgishitsu 1 at CIRE

■Workshop 4: Japanese Honorifics (keigo)
Japanese is a language in which the speaker has to think what grammatical forms and expressions to use according to the setting and his/her relationship to the addressee. In this workshop we will review Japanese honorifics and the related grammar acquired at the beginners and intermediate levels, and will learn the most typical situations in which honorifics are used. The above will be complemented by an outline of the related language manners and proper behavior.

Intermediate students and Researchers whose Japanese language level corresponds to Japanese 4xx-5xx level at CIRE can attend this workshop.

Dates and time: 8 December (Tue), 15 December (Tue), 22 December (Tue), 12 January (Tue), 19 January(Tue) at 12:50-14:20

Venue: Enshūshitsu 2 at CIRE


■Workshop 5: Let's speak Japanese
Skills required in conversation and oral expression, such as self-introduction, familiar daily topics, study area, etc., will be practiced at this workshop. Handouts will be distributed in the classroom.

Students and Researchers who have completed (or are close to the completion of) basic Japanese and whose Japanese language level corresponds to Japanese 2xx-4xx at CIRE can attend this workshop.

Dates and time: 20 November (Fri), 27 November (Fri), 4 December (Fri), 11 December (Fri), 18 December (Fri) at 14:30-16:00

Venue: Enshūshitsu 1 at CIRE
